Visit the famous chocolate hills and spot the cute Tarsiers

Bohol is another tourist destination in the Philippines, with very diverse sights. Bohol has more to offer than beautiful sandy beaches and a beautiful underwater world. This makes it a wonderful destination for a nice change during your trip through the Philippines! Enjoy beautiful landscapes, spot the rare Tarsiers and discover Spanish colonial architecture. Of course, there are also plenty of beautiful beaches to relax on!

Chocolate Hills and Tarsier Sanctuary Center

The best place for exploring Bohol is the town of Panglao, located on the island of the same name. I visited the chocolate hills by scooter, taking a beautiful ride through the hills and vast landscapes! However, it took two hours to reach the Chocolate Hills (near the town of Carmen). It is also possible to book a tour by bus from Panglao. Count on about 1.5 hours by bus to the Chocolate Hills. The view from the viewpoint is very impressive. A very special natural phenomenon. The Chocolate Hills turn brown in April and May, hence the name chocolate. Be prepared for mass tourism at the viewpoint, but it is definitely worth it! On the way from Panglao to Carmen you will come across the Tarsier Sanctuary center, another must-see on Bohol. Tarsiers are very small animals of 9 to 13 centimeters with very large eyes and a long tail (one eye weighs more than the brain). During the visit it is important to be very quiet, because if there is too much noise, the animals will hit their heads against the tree due to stress.n causing them to commit suicide. I didn't have to look for the Tarsiers myself, because there were employees everywhere to point them out. I did wonder if they hadn't just put the Tarsiers there along the path through a small forest (I think the path was 500 meters). During this beautiful ride I also drove past some beautiful churches!

What else can you do in Bohol?

Visit two well-known churches on the island:Baclayong Church andLoboc Church. Another unique experience is to have onecruiseto take on the Loboc River, during a quiet vaart through the forests and beautiful green hills, enjoy a buffet lunch on board while enjoying live music performances. For adventurers, it is recommended to go zip-lining in the areaDanao Adventure Park or take an ATV tour on a quad bike. To relax after all these activities, isAlona Beach one of the most popular beaches on Panglao to relax. Of course it is also possible to do beautiful diving in Bohol.

Tarsier on Bohol

How to get to Panglao (Bohol)?

Take fromMoalboal a bus to Cebu City. The first option is to get off at CarCar city to take a ferry to Tagbilaran Bohol. This ferry only runs once a day. That is why it is a bit more relaxing to travel back to Cebu first (2 to 3 hours). Then travel by taxi or tricycle (type of tuk tuk) to the port of Cebu. There are several ferry companies available here that sail to Tagbilaran on Bohol in two hours. In Tagbilaran you can take a taxi or tricycle to Panglao (20 to 30 minutes). So it is quite a journey from Moalboal. Traveling in the Philippines always takes a lot of time, so always keep this in mind!
