Discover the most unique modern city in Southeast Asia with an impressive skyline
Singapore is a very fascinating destination where you sometimes feel like you are walking into the future. It is a super modern city with impressive futuristic architecture and a beautiful skyline. Enjoy the vibrant city life in this safe and very clean city. Singapore is a very cultural city where many different cultures come together. From Little India and China Town to an abundance of Western expats. Plenty to see and do! A very nice city trip that you can ideally combine with a trip to one of the surrounding countries, such as Malaysia, Thailand or Indonesia. Singapore is often also a stopover for flights in this region or to Oceania. It's a shame to fly through this again straight away. Please note: do not leave waste on the street and do not eat in the subway, because there are hefty fines for this. A completely different world than the rest of South-East Asia...
Day 1 in Singapore
Start your day early with a visitMarina Bay Sands, the iconic hotel with a ship-shaped roof. If you can financially afford it, I would absolutely book a room here! On one side of the hotel you have a fantastic view of the Singapore skyline from the water. It is also located hereMerlion, a large statue of a combination between a lion and a fish. This is the national symbol of Singapore. Here you can take a beautiful photo of the skyline and the beautiful image. On the other side of the hotel are theGardens by the Bay. This really is a beautifully maintained and impressive park with the futuristic supertrees. Enjoy the special architecture while walking under these trees. In the park you will also find the impressive oneCloudForest and theFlower Dome. Cloud Forest is a special attraction where you find yourself in an enormous dome with the largest indoor waterfall in the world (35 meters high). The tower is completely covered with all kinds of plants and flowers that can normally grow at 2,000 kilometers above sea level. Each floor of the tower has something fun to offer. From beautiful high bridges through the building to impressive videos about climate change. The Flower Dome is an interesting attraction for real flower and fauna lovers. Here you can admire all kinds of beautiful flowers and plants! You have to pay an entrance fee for Cloud Forest and the Flower Dome, but the Gardens by the Bay park is free to enter. Buy your ticketsonline, so you don't have to queue for this.
After spending a morning in the beautiful park, you continue walking toChina Town. Here you find yourself in a completely different world where you can take a look at the local culture. First eat a nice lunch in itMaxwell Food Center, a food court with all kinds of stalls selling street food. There are such Hawker Centers everywhere in Singapore, highly recommended for delicious, affordable food. Another option in China Town is the Amoy Street Food Center. After a well-deserved lunch you can visit some beautiful traditional temples, such as theSri Mariamman Temple and theBuddha Tooth Relic Temple. After this, it is time to rest and freshen up at your hostel or hotel. Travel or walk back to the starting point of the day for a impressive light show at Gardens of the Bay.
back. Find a nice spot in the grass while enjoying a tasty snack or drink (buy this in advance at a supermarket). The show starts at 7:45 PM to 8:45 PM. Be on time, because the best spots will soon be occupied! Then end your day with a delicious meal at theLau Pa Sat Food Court, another atmospheric Hawker Centre. Here you can eat a delicious local dish between the enormous skyscrapers!
Day 2 in Singapore
Start your day with a visit to the cultural district of Kampong Glam, a district known as the Muslim quarter of Singapore. A beautiful sight in this district is the Sultan Mosque with a beautiful golden dome. Walk through the cute and atmospheric streets of Haij Ln and Bali Ln. In this cultural district you will find some beautiful street art drawings. Then you walk to another cultural district, namely Little India . Enjoy the lively atmosphere and the colorful district. In any case, visit the Sri Veeramakliamman Temple and the Sakya Muni Buddha Gaya Temple . Then eat a delicious curry or a tasty tandoori at one of the numerous restaurants or food courts.
Feel like going shopping in the afternoon? Then visit Orchard Road , Singapore's shopping street with many luxury boutiques and department stores. Another option is Marina Bay Sands, VivoCity or Bugis Street. Of course, you will also come across all kinds of nice boutiques while you walk through Little India, China Town and Kampong Glam.
Want to just relax? Visit Sentosa , a kind of entertainment island where everything is built especially for tourists. Welcome to Singapore ;). Here you can chill on one of the beautifully situated beaches.
End your city trip in Singapore with a drink at the Cé La Vi Skybar , on the roof of the famous Marina Bay Sands hotel. I was lucky, because on Wednesday nights it was 'ladies night' at that time, where women could go up for free and get a voucher for their first drink. In any case, make sure you are dressed nicely! With this beautiful view, this is a great way to end your trip! Or choose one of the other numerous sky bars in Singapore for a nice end to your city trip!
More time left in Singapore?
In Singapore you can have extra fun for days! Visit one of the many theme parks on Sentosa Island, namely Universal Studios, S.E.A. Aquarium or the Adventure Cove Waterpark. Or visit the Singapore Zoo. The zoo is located in a green area just outside the city. Another fun option is to admire the city from the water with a boat tour from Boat Quay. Here you can also eat delicious fish and sushi! Or take a ride on the 165-meter-high Ferris wheel, the Singapore Flyer. Want to go all out for a night? You have come to the right place in the Clarke Quay district. Do you want to escape the hustle and bustle? Then visit the Singapore Botanical Gardens, which have also been on the UNESO World Heritage List since 2015. Or take a beautiful walk in the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.
How do I get to Singapore?
From the beautiful and luxurious Changi Airport you can quickly reach the center of Singapore by public transport. Public transport in Singapore is extremely well organized, making it easy to get everywhere! The tickets for a ride on public transport are also affordable. Definitely don't try to drive while in Singapore, because there is very strict enforcement everywhere. Before you leave Changi Airport, I would definitely visit the Jewel at the airport. This is a huge fountain that flows down through a hole. A very special place. It's no surprise that this is the most beautiful airport in the world!
Stay overnight
If your budget allows it, I would absolutely book a room at the Marina Bay Sands hotel. The sooner you book, the greater the chance that the cheaper rooms will still be available. A nice advantage is that as a hotel guest you can visit the beautiful infinity pool on top of the roof! Count on an amount of approximately €600-€700 per night. Otherwise, I would recommend looking for a nice hotel or hostel in one of the nice neighborhoods in Singapore: Little India, China Town or Kampong Glam.
