An impression of my experiences in Mirissa
After chilling on the beach we met a nice Italian guy in our hostel. We ate together in a top restaurant with delicious local food. I also had the best dessert of my entire trip: Banoffie (cookie, banana, chocolate with roti and vanilla ice cream). The next day we rented scooters. First we drove to Weligama beach to go surfing there. Despite my very limited surfing experience, I really enjoyed it! Final score: stood upright on the plank for 2 seconds (talent is not that present), had a lot of waves over me, red knees and a tomato head... But it was fun! We then drove to a lake near Mirissa and drove around it. My scooter skills have been trained again, because it was a very bumpy road. On the way we saw fishermen sitting on a stick. These men were only here for the tourists to have pictures taken of them and not for fishing (as they do early in the morning). We had to pay 5 euros to take a photo... not so nice. The man who arranged this was hEle got angry and hit Dianne with a stick when she secretly wanted to take a quick photo. What an experience again. Another hilarious photo shoot done at the 'coconut hill'. In the evening we had dinner at our favorite tent again, delicious! The next morning we took it easy. After breakfast we drove to a beach 50 minutes from Mirissa. This beach is located in a beautiful bay. Dianne went surfing again and I chilled out and read a book in the shade. After the chill day at the beach, ready for a fun party! Still one of the best things about traveling!
What to do in Mirissa?
From Mirissa you can easily reach a number of beautiful beaches by scooter or tuk tuk: Secret Beach, Weligama beach (ideal for surfing) and Mirissa Beach. You will find 'Coconut Hill' 1.5 kilometers from the center. The place for a hilarious photo shoot. There are also many delicious eateries in Mirissa. Eat a delicious smoothie bowl at Shady Lane or enjoy fresh fish on the beach. In addition, a popular activity in Mirissa is whale watching (November to April). At first we thought this sounded super cool, but after reading a number of reviews, we decided not to do this. The whales are chased enormously by the overcrowded boats with tourists. Don't you want to miss out on this experience? Then book an excursion with Whale Watch club or Raja & the Whales.
